With the upcoming event hosted by Geoff Keighley, one of the most relevant leakers in RE’s history claims that Code Veronica Remake could be shown at Summer Game Fest this June.
Of course, take this with a grain of salt, as Dusk Golem only made a speculative guess since the timing would favor such an announcement at SGF. Along with the franchise’s 30th anniversary, Capcom is due for a massive Resident Evil announcement. And that could be none other than Code Veronica.
The impending remake could fix some of the original game’s problems, such as its awkward pacing, frustrating backtracking, and some brutal design decisions that have affected any sort of will to play the game for people new to the franchise. But that only means it could be a great candidate for a remake, as the foundation is well established.
If the recent leaks are to be believed, the remake could be in very good hands. Reports have suggested that Kazunori Kadoi and Yasuhiro Anpo, the duo connected to the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 remakes, may be involved. And such a Code Veronica remake could have a real chance at becoming one of the best modern remakes in the franchise.
Rockford Island needs to be rebuilt, that is for sure. Apply modern survival horror design, more natural exploration, better enemy placement, stronger environmental storytelling, and rewards that make backtracking feel exciting, and you may have one of the best remakes yet, as Code Veronica is largely beloved by its fan base. If the potential is reached, then the overwhelmingly positive response will be inevitable.
I am pretty sure every soul reading this article would want this to become true. However, it is hard to predict Capcom’s marketing plans, as Dusk Golem said himself. They may decide to postpone such a reveal to the end of the year for The Game Awards, since they still have DLC to announce for the amazingly well-received Resident Evil Requiem.
In the end, whether it is the Code Veronica remake or Requiem DLC, Summer Game Fest would be a great opportunity to announce either of them.
