An anonymous 4chan post claims that FromSoftware’s next single-player title is allegedly called Cerulean Onslaught and would revolve around an ancient sea monster called the Leviathan, which blocks souls from reaching paradise. The rumor claims the game would be revealed at Summer Game Fest and released only two months later, in August, before The Duskbloods. It is described as a dark action RPG where players sail across the ocean, explore islands, and use their ship as a central hub.
Now, this at first glance sounds amazing. And going even further, FromSoft has had some successful experiments lately, such as Elden Ring: Nightreign and Armored Core VI, which show they are willing to attempt newer things and go beyond their traditional Soulslike experiences. As such, a pirate game would be a longer way from their usual course, but it’s not that improbable.
On paper, Pirate Souls has a lot of potential. A game built around dark oceans, cursed islands, sea monsters, unusual crews, and ship-based exploration sounds like a fantastic idea. Imagine sailing through a dead, endless sea, never fully knowing what might rise from the water, islands that could hold many secrets, hideous monsters and incredible loot. Your ship could be a place where NPCs gather, stories unfold, and the world slowly becomes stranger the further you travel. It’s concepts like these where FromSoft should thrive.
However, multiple content creators covering this rumor have pointed out how unlikely it sounds, especially because it’s supposed to release only two months after its announcement. For a major FromSoftware single-player RPG, that would be an extremely short marketing cycle — something that hasn’t been done before by the studio. Let alone when you talk about the source of this rumor — 4chan, which has been wrong many times — and FromSoft’s plans to release The Duskbloods alongside Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition. Releasing another full single-player game in the same window would be shocking.
In the end, if this game is real or not, the idea is undeniably good. It might actually prove how much players want FromSoftware to explore something beyond castles, swamps, and ruined kingdoms. And whether we’ll actually hunt the Leviathan this summer or not, someone needs to pitch this idea to them.
