Take this with a grain of salt, but we might see something Stellar Blade 2-related soon. Shift Up has now made it clear that the sequel is progressing smoothly, and more importantly, that the game is expected to be revealed “within the year.” So with that in mind, we should have a teaser or a full-blown trailer at the earliest this coming June.
Since its release in 2024, Stellar Blade has become one of the bigger new action-game success stories in recent years. The game built a strong fanbase on PS5, then found even more momentum through its PC release. According to Shift Up’s latest earnings report discussion, Stellar Blade has become one of the studio’s long-term growth pillars, with the company now treating the IP as an evergreen franchise rather than a one-off success.
One interesting thing is that Shift Up plans to self-publish its next game, no longer having Sony as its publisher. The first Stellar Blade came out as a PS5 console exclusive, but this “shift” in strategy opens the door for a day-one PC launch. And depending on how ambitious Shift Up wants to be, Xbox and Nintendo platforms may no longer be out of the question.
Of course, that does not completely rule out another PlayStation deal. Sony could still make an exclusivity agreement if it wants to keep Stellar Blade 2 closely tied to its platform. And with Sony’s latest strategy of returning to its exclusives, this cannot be ruled out. But with how strong the first game performed on PC, Shift Up may have every reason to bet on itself this time. This measure of cutting ties with Sony might make Shift Up want to compete in the big league.
And that is where Summer Game Fest comes in.
If Shift Up wants to make a statement, there are few better stages. Summer Game Fest gives publishers and developers a global audience, and Stellar Blade 2 already has enough name recognition to create immediate traction. A full gameplay reveal may be too much to expect, but a teaser trailer, logo reveal, or short cinematic would fit nicely.
Still, expectations should stay realistic.
A reveal does not mean the game is close to launch. Even if Stellar Blade 2 appears this year, a 2027 or even 2028 release would be more realistic, as not enough time has passed since the PC port, which released almost a year ago. A sequel arriving too quickly would raise questions, especially if the studio wants to improve and expand on the original in a meaningful way.
Stellar Blade proved that Shift Up can deliver a stylish, polished action game with strong combat, excellent performance, and a main character who quickly became recognizable in the gaming space. Now the sequel has a chance to go bigger, reach more platforms, and turn Stellar Blade from a successful new IP into a true franchise. And if that first teaser drops on the Summer Game Fest stage, it could easily become the event’s second-biggest surprise.
