We have been waiting a long time for a Rayman comeback, and finally, our wish may be fulfilled. Ubisoft’s silence around this IP broke as new reports and insider comments suggest that Rayman Legends: Retold is real and will appear at the upcoming State of Play.

The project is set to “Impress and surprise people” according to insider NateDrake and it's also not just a basic remaster. Multiple sources describe this game as a reimagining of the original Rayman Legends, keeping it primarily as a 2.5D platformer while also adding new 3D sections. According to N1Up, these 3D segments are said to be in the style of Star Fox, with Rayman flying on the back of a dragon and shooting down enemies.

The remake is also said to include new content, a real story, and a new villain. Rayman himself has reportedly received a minor redesign, now featuring two separate eyes instead of his classic single-eye look, alongside more detailed shoes and tied sweater drawstrings. Rayman and Globox may also receive several new skins, including looks inspired by older Rayman games and even crossover skins from titles such as Astro Bot and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

These additions that we hear about would make sense for a modern Ubisoft release, as their latest strategy hints at bringing their older golden geese, now new and improved, to current hardware, like Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Re-synced, which is right around the corner. Now, if they want to bring Rayman back, Ubisoft needs to do more than simply repackage a beloved game. It needs to remind people why Rayman mattered in the first place, while also giving returning fans something new to talk about.

The original remains one of the best 2D platformers ever made, with incredible music levels, sharp controls, gorgeous art direction, and that effortless charm Ubisoft used to deliver so well. A reimagined version with expanded content, 3D sections, new skins, and a stronger story could be exactly what the franchise needs after so many years away.

I sincerely hope that we’ll see this once-amazing franchise come back to life. In the upcoming showcase, likely filled with action games, shooters, live-service projects, and cinematic trailers, a vibrant platformer like Rayman Legends could stand out immediately. Sometimes, the best surprise is not the biggest blockbuster, but the return of something fans thought had been forgotten.
