A new Crash Bandicoot game may be closer to reality than it first seemed.
According to a recent rumor, Xbox has reportedly greenlit a new game in the franchise, with the claim coming from the same leaker who was connected to the Spyro reveal before the Xbox Game Showcase. Nothing has been officially confirmed yet, but the timing is interesting for one very simple reason. Crash Bandicoot is heading toward his 30th anniversary.
A recent tease from the official account appears to point toward September 9, which would line up perfectly with the original game’s anniversary. The video itself may just be part of a social media trend, but the details around it feel very specific. The mention of “30,” the reference to 1996, and the date all seem designed to remind fans that Crash’s big milestone is coming.
The safer expectation is probably a celebration first and a full game reveal second. Activision and Xbox could use the anniversary to announce merchandise, collaborations, a Fortnite crossover, a collection, or smaller content tied to Crash’s history. There have also been rumors about Crash appearing alongside other gaming mascots in Fortnite, which would make sense for a 30th anniversary celebration.

The series proved with *Crash Bandicoot 4 *that it could still work as a modern platformer. The game was difficult, colorful, and faithful to the spirit of the older entries, even if it also divided some players because of its challenge and completion requirements. Still, it showed there is room for games like this beyond remasters.
With Spyro: A Realm Beyond already bringing back another classic mascot platformer, a new Crash Bandicoot game would be the natural next move. It remains one of the most recognizable characters in Activision’s library. If Xbox and Activision want to show that they still value family-friendly platformers and legacy IP, Crash is one of the clearest choices they have.
