According to a rumor circulating around, Ubisoft has already made preliminary plans for Rayman 4, but the project may depend on the success of Rayman Legends Retold, coming October 1st.
The game is not just a simple port of the 2013 classic. It’s coming back with a new look, new content, and enough changes to make it feel like a real test for new and old audiences alike.
The $40 price tag will have a big role here. It is not cheap enough to be seen as a small nostalgia purchase, but it is also not a full $70 release. That puts Rayman Legends Retold in a good middle ground. If the game sells well at that price, it would show Ubisoft that Rayman can still bring real commercial interest without needing a massive AAA budget. And if that happens, Rayman 4 would be less of a risk and more like the natural next step.
Ubisoft is clearly measuring interest and honestly, Rayman 4 would need that kind of proof. The platformer space is far from being dead, but it is not easy either. Games like Astro Bot, Sonic Frontiers, Crash Bandicoot 4, and Super Mario Bros. Wonder have shown that mascot platformers can still work, but they need a clear identity. Rayman surely does not lack it, but it needs to be reinforced and remind people of its charm.
Rayman has not been forgotten. A real fourth entry may only be in early planning, but let’s hope players will show up and this franchise will start to grow again.
