After so many Resident Evil remakes, and more to come, RE5 felt inevitable. But according to recent comments attributed to renowned leaker Dusk Golem, Capcom may not currently have any real drive to remake Resident Evil 5 or Resident Evil 6.
It is hard to imagine that, after so much success, they would not remake at some point one of the most successful entries in the franchise’s history. It just means we’re likely not going to see it anytime soon, this decade to be more precise.
Coming into more recent names waiting in line for a remake, Capcom would need to decide how much of the original game to preserve and how much to rebuild. One of the key elements of RE5 was its co-op focus. Deciding that Chris and Sheva should have different mechanics and that the tone should become darker and more horror-focused would make for a big change. Whatever direction they choose, it needs to be treated carefully.
Many fans, including myself, would love bringing Albert Wesker into the spotlight once again, as he remains one of Resident Evil’s most iconic villains. A modern remake could give his rivalry with Chris more weight, better presentation, and far more cinematic acts. Seeing him rebuilt with today’s visuals and Capcom’s current production values, aligned with a better build-up for his story, would make for a more satisfying conclusion for the series than how it was back in 2009 when the original released.

But things may be taking a slower route.
With RE Zero and Veronica reportedly connected more closely to Requiem, Capcom may be focusing on parts of the timeline that support its current direction. According to the rumor, there is no grand master plan to remake every Resident Evil game. Instead, Capcom may be reassessing the franchise every few years and deciding where to go next. And that would explain why Resident Evil 5 is not a priority right now.
Still, fan demand will never disappear. If Veronica, Zero, and possibly an RE1 remake all arrive first, interest in Resident Evil 5 will grow even stronger. For the time being, though, fans waiting for its remake may need to be patient.
Luckily, it’s a good time to be a Resident Evil fan, with many projects on the horizon.
